  • About

In the early twentieth century, Halloween meant apples and donuts at least as much as candy. One popular game was to have the little goblins bob for donuts—that is, hang the sinkers on a string and try to eat one hands-free. And what could be better than a little pumpkin in the dough? OK, I’m cheating here and not really using pumpkin. But it’s all for a good cause. I’ve found that if I use the widely available kabocha squash, the donuts taste more “pumpkiny” than if I use the real thing. J
