We were very poor growing up. We didn’t have big cabinets. My daddy built shelves underneath the house with a little door and that was where we stored the jellies and jams. I have nephews who still remember when we had to crawl under the house for those. It was under the cool side of the house. There were canned pears and other fruits too.
