Wash okra well and cut off stem ends. Place okra in boiling water and add a pinch of salt. Let okra boil slowly and cook until tender—about 20 minutes. Do not overcook. Drain okra in colander and cool. Lay okra on serving dish. Put oil, vinegar, the ½ teaspoon of salt, and the pepper in bowl; beat well with a wire whisk. Pour over okra. Serve chilled.
