A popular native meal on the coastline between Port Said and Damietta is minced prawn made into kofta (meatballs). Mild, herby prawn (shrimp) meatballs are served in a rich tomato sauce combining a traditional Egyptian stew base with Mediterranean seafood flavours. For tapas-style dining, the same koftas can be fried in oil until golden brown and served as a part of a mezza spread with a tahina dipping sauce on the side.
