The mas melons are the local variety of melons grown by the Bedouins of Marsa Matruh. The crop is irrigated solely by winter rainwater. The peel is a canary yellow and the flesh is a seafoam green. In peak season (July to September), the melons are sold by local Bedouins at road-side tented fruit stalls all over Marsa Matruh and farther up to Sidi Barrani, yet nowhere else.
