While Italy is not known for spicy foods, Calabrian chilies pack quite a punch. A favorite chili of mine thanks to their deep flavor and intense heat and perfect with pizza. Look for Calabrian chilies packed in oil. While commercial Calabrian chili paste is available, I prefer to make it myself to better control the heat and consistency. Be sure to save any leftover oil for drizzling on pizzas or other dishes. It’s amazing.
