I developed this recipe in honor of my Oma who, whenever we get on the topic of food, insists that there is nothing better than a simple meal of “roasted root vegetables.” Although I can already guarantee that the addition of dumplings is more than she will want to fuss over, I made this recipe with simplicity in mind. I kept it as versatile as possible with the option to use a variety of whichever root vegetables you might have on hand (think leeks, carrots, potatoes, rutabaga, and so on).
