Napa cabbage, also known as Chinese cabbage, originated in Beijing; my mother always told me it was a symbol of prosperity. It has an oblong shape (similar to a gold ingot, which may be what connects it to prosperity) and thick, crisp stems with frilly yellow-green leaves.
