Years ago, my mother was living with me in a tiny guest house in Laurel Canyon. We had to ask our neighbors, Patrick and Peter, to store a hundred pounds of meat and shrimp in their extra freezer, because our freezer couldn’t accommodate it. We were testing recipes all the time and needed the inventory handy. The other neighbors would give us funny looks as we were crossing the cul-de-sac with yet another frozen block of shrimp.
