My grandmother used to watch Chinese soap operas while savoring a dish of sliced Asian pears in our living room. Asian pears have a mild flavor that’s similar to jicama, but sweeter, and a delicate crunch and a firmer texture than most pears. This tart is the perfect end to a Chinese meal. Just when you think it can’t be topped, the ginger-spiked whipped cream does just that.
