These cakes of Greek or Turkish origin keep well in the syrup and are delicious standbys. They are also known as ladies’ wrists.

  • 1 cup (250 g/8 oz) white granulated sugar

Method

To make the syrup

Place all the ingredients in a saucepan and boil for 5 minutes. Discard the spices. Cool the syrup before using it.
