  • About

A bad wind entering the body is blamed for coughs and colds in Indonesia. The cure? This warming milky drink known affectionately by the acronym for susu telor madu jahe - milk, egg, honey, ginger. Here, enough to comfort one invalid.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml (1 cup) full-fat milk
  • 2 slices ginger, skin scrubbed, bruised
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Method

Heat the milk and ginger slowly until it just comes to the boil. Turn off the heat.

In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and honey until pale and bubbly. Gradually whisk in the hot gingery milk. Pour into a mug and serve at once.
