This has to be the daftest thing that I cooked on the entire trip. But it does prove the point that the determined cook can produce some kind of meal under any circumstances.

Ingredients

  • 1 sirloin steak
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • some mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • salt

Method

Slice the steak through the middle to form a pocket, then stuff the onion and mushrooms into the said pocket. Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper, pop a knob of butter on top and wrap the steak in foil. Then put it into a tin can, open the bonnet of your Land Rover or jeep, wire it to your exhaust pipe and leave for a couple of hours.
