Method

  1. To cook the meat: In a Dutch oven, heat 3 tablespoons oil over medium heat and brown the onion and the meat. Add salt, pepper, and turmeric, and sauté for 1 minute.
  2. Pour in water—2½ cups/600ml for meat, 1½ cups/360ml for chicken. Cover and simmer 45 minutes for meat or 10 minutes for chicken over low heat.
