This preserve can also be made with unpitted sour cherries. I have fond childhood memories of coming home from school in the afternoon and putting spoonfuls of it in my tea instead of sugar (and then eating them with a spoon out of the tea glass, when I had drunk the tea). Sometimes, for a snack we’d put spoonfuls of the syrupy red sour cherry jewels over thick, white, creamy yogurt.
