Mulled wine

Name: Mulled wine

Ingredients: Put 200 g/7 oz/1 cup sugar, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 6 cloves in a large pan, together with 250 ml/8 fl oz/1 cup hot water. Add 2 medium oranges, cut into thin slices, reserving a few slices for serving. Bring to the boil over a high heat and boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.; Reduce the heat to medium and add 1.5 litres/2½ pints/6¼ cups red wine. Stir until the mixture comes back to the boil. Remove from the heat and leave to stand for a few minutes. Serve in six warmed, heatproof glasses garnished with a fresh orange slice.
