A wonderful and simple dessert. During the summer it can be made with fresh berries, but you can also use frozen fruit. Though it comes from the northern region, this well-known compote is eaten all over Germany.
Heat the sugar in a pan over medium heat until it caramelizes. When it turns golden brown, plunge the base of the pan in a bowl of cold water to stop the sugar burning. Stir in the grape juice, add the spices and return to the heat.
