Now, I have to admit my first encounter with a menestra de verduras was not a good one. I was in Rioja, and opted for a light supper, or so I thought. It arrived, the delicious virgin vegetables had been given a thick coat of batter and worse still they were submerged in a murky stock - a soggy flaccid batter. What could be worse?
