After we moved The Cook’s Atelier to its current location on rue de Lorraine, Laurent began to navigate his new role as Frenchman of the family and keeper of our wine shop. I happened to be nearby one day when he was discussing the virtues of various wines with customers. As he got into the nuances of a particular wine from the Rhône Valley, he said to the clients, “Now here’s a lovely wine from the north of France.” I interrupted; geographically, the Rhône is a bit south of central France.
