You can cut the bread into whatever size or shape croûtons you fancy, just make sure that you cook them until golden brown on each side, without allowing them to burn.

Ingredients

  • 25 g/1 oz unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Method

  1. Heat a large frying pan (skillet) over a medium heat. Add the butter and oil and when the butter is foaming, add the cubes of bread and fry for 45-60 seconds on each side until golden brown.
  2. Drain on paper towel and season with salt and pepper.
