Prepare your mise en place.

Place the vinegar, soy sauce, and lime juice in a medium nonreactive saucepan. Stir in the honey and ketchup. Add the star anise and cinnamon and place over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Lower the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes or until slightly reduced and thickened.
