Place the raisins in a small heat-proof bowl with boiling water to cover. Set aside to soak for 8 hours or overnight.
Drain the soaked raisins through a fine-mesh sieve, discarding the soaking liquid. Transfer the softened raisins to a cutting board and, using a sharp knife, coarsely chop. Set aside.
