The best part (in my opinion) about the German Fastnacht season is that bakeries fill their shelves with Berliner doughnuts! Other words used for Berliner doughnuts are “Krapfen” and “Kreppel.” And ironically, in Berlin they are called “Pfannkuchen.” Fastnacht is celebrated in Catholic-prominent regions of Germany, including Trier, where I grew up.
