One of my fondest memories growing up was having barbecues. They didn’t happen very often, and they weren’t really very good, but there was something about them that I loved. After we’d eaten some overcooked burgers and undercooked sausages, my dad would throw some bananas on the barbecue.
I can still smell the banana juices dripping into the coals, as the scorched skin turned all kinds of black. After half an hour, they’d come off and we’d eat them with cheap vanilla ice cream.
