Take 12 lbs of flour. At 8 o’clock in the morning, pour 12 glasses of boiling water into half of this flour, beat it as well as possible, and set in a warm place to ferment. At 8 o’clock in the evening, knead in the remaining flour and add 2½ glasses kvass lees and 1½ lb prunes. Before using the prunes, cover them with boiling water in order to remove their stones, but do not allow them to soften completely. Chop the prunes and add them to the dough with 1 lb sweet almonds, shelled and finely chopped, about 4 lbs treacle, and, if desired, ½ cup caraway seeds, or even more. Knead everything thoroughly and set in a warm place until morning. Roll out the loaves as usual, smooth them thoroughly with a wet hand, and set them in a very hot oven.
