Another hearty winter favourite. Cheap and nutritious and feeds a houseful! I love the flavour of neeps in this.

Ingredients

  • 450 g yellow split peas, well rinsed
  • 1 small smoked ham shank
  • 1 tsp

Method

  1. Put the yellow split peas and smoked ham shank in a large pot with the salt and 3 litres of cold water. Bring to the boil, then turn the heat down to medium-low. Skim any scum or foam from the top and leave to simmer away for about 1 hour 30 minutes, until the split peas are very soft and the ham shank is cooked.
