A classic, old-school, sticky gingerbread, delicious sliced and spread – thickly – with butter (according to my granddaughter Maisie, aged 2½).

Ingredients

  • 130 g sugar
  • 75 g butter
  • 70 g

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C/140°C fan/gas mark 3.
  2. Put the sugar, butter, treacle, golden syrup and milk in a pot over a medium heat until the butter has melted, stirring occasionally. Don’t let it boil, and take the pot off the heat once you have a homog
