Fresh lemonade is easy and fun to make, especially if you enlist the help of any young family members to squeeze the lemons. It is extra effort but worth it for the lovely tangy flavour. The syrup will keep for a week in the fridge.

Ingredients

  • 225 g caster sugar
  • 9 medium lemons

Method

  1. Combine the sugar and 250ml water in a small saucepan over a medium heat. Stir to dissolve while the mixture comes to a boil, then set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Roll the lemons around on your worktop, pushing down with your hand to soften them. Cut in half across and squeeze the juice out into a measuring jug. Add the pulp to the juice, but discard any pips. Cont
