So the story goes that there was a bar in London’s Orange Street called Ciros. This place was reputed to be frequented by a bunch of foppish folk who for one reason or another were able to drink their way through the World War I while their fellow countrymen suffered the trenches in France or the waters of the Atlantic. Certain people thought poorly of this establishment, so in an attempt to show some tact, its members invented this cocktail in honour of the forces and carried on drinking.<
