  • 500 g/1 lb 2 oz/4 cups strong white bread flour

Method

Mix together the flour and salt in a bowl. In another bowl, add the yeast to 325ml/11fl oz/scant 1⅓ cups warm water, leave for 1 minute, then stir until dissolved. Pour into the flour and bring together to a smooth, slightly tacky dough.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for about 2 minutes until the dough is smooth and no longer sticky.
