  • 3 tbsp oliveby onions, peeled
  • 50 g/ oz/¼

Method

Heat the oil in a saucepan over a medium heat. Add the onions and fry quickly for 1-2 minutes until light golden in colour.

Add enough water to come halfway up the onions and stir in the sugar. Heat, stirring, until the sugar has melted, then bring to the boil. Turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 15 minutes until the onions are just tender and the liquid has reduced to a syru
