  • About

We can’t thank the Caribbean region enough for giving the world plantains. There are so many ways to enjoy this special type of banana: boiled, mashed, and even roasted. But for a cookout? Fried is the way to go.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe plantains
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Salt

Method

  1. Cut the ends off the plantains and slice along the length of the plantains to remove the peels. Slice the plantains crosswise into ½ in [13 mm] rounds.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat about ⅛ in [3 mm] of vegetable oil until it shimmers. Line a plate with paper towels and set aside.
  3. Working in batches, carefully add the plantain rounds
