I didn’t think I liked crumpets until I tried making my own and found that it really makes the difference! Now I am a huge fan and regularly eat them for breakfast, especially since they are so much simpler to make than I thought.

Method

  1. Put the milk in a small saucepan and warm very gently over a low heat. Remove from the heat, pour into a bowl and add 100ml/3½ fl oz tepid water, the yeast and the sugar. Leave in a warm place for 15 minutes to allow the yeast to dissolve and become frothy.
