Homity Pie became particularly popular in Britain during the 1960s thanks to the hippy sub-culture making vegetarian dishes more mainstream. I’ve made it extra-hippy by creating my own vegan version – and it is SO good.

For the pastry

  • 250 g/9 oz ( cups) plain (all-pupose) flour

  1. Make the pastry by putting the flour, butter and salt in a large bowl and rubbing together with your fingertips until it forms a dense, sandy mixture. (Alternatively, use a food processor and pulse a few times.) Add up to 4 tablespoons of cold water, a spoonful at a time, until the dough comes together without crumbling.
