While my dad’s side of the family is French and Irish, my mom’s side is Italian. In honor of my Italian side, the Avenali family, it’s only fitting that I include this lovely, refreshing dessert. Panna cotta—“cooked milk”—is an Italian classic: sophisticated and rich, with a silky texture. I make my version with coconut milk, which adds a tropical nuttiness, but you can make it with whipping cream if you prefer the traditional dairy flavor.
