One of the best ways of getting fresh fruit and vegetables into children is in smoothies and juices. I have dabbled in professional smoothie- and juice-making and it’s a whole world of fun, with fresh, clean flavours, exciting, vibrant colours and natural tastes that need nothing else but a straw!

Ingredients

  • 800 g watermelon (the striped Italian ones are best)
  • juice of 3 limes
  • 250 <

Method

Preparation

Using a sharp knife, remove the skin from the watermelon and roughly chop the flesh. Discard the seeds.

  1. Mix the watermelon flesh with the lime juice and ice cubes and allow to stand for 10 minutes.
  2. Blend the mixture in manageable batches until smooth and slushy. Serve straight away.
