It is easy to become dependent on these savoury biscuits (crackers): alongside the five o’clock coffee, or afterwards with drinks (in which case, make smaller biscuits), or perhaps before – or basically all through the day for me because yağli simit are extremely good. ‘Yagli’ means ‘fat’, and the tag comes from the fact that this biscuit contains fat, unlike the standard simit (leavened bread) that you find in Istanbul’s streets.
