A simple tomato sauce is one of the most basic building blocks of Italian cuisine. It is an incredible pasta sauce, a base for many baked dishes, and even a medium for cooking meatballs (see Polpette al Sugo) and other meat. However, it’s also one of the easiest dishes to mess up through over-complication.
