Tasty, crunchy and tangy, this salad, known in Pakistan as patta ghobi, is basically a Pakistani coleslaw, which we often serve at home as a simple side dish. If you don’t like red cabbage, just use white cabbage. If there is a peanut allergy in the family, leave out the peanuts, and use olive oil instead of peanut oil.

Ingredients

  • 250 g (9 oz) cabbage, a mixture of red and white, thinly shredded

Method

Combine the cabbage, carrot, chilli, coriander and sugar in a large bowl. Add the peanuts, if using, and the peanut oil and mix thoroughly.

Add lemon juice and salt to taste, then serve.
