This rich yeast dough can be shaped into a variety of plain and ornamental breads, called coffeecakes in the United States. Sticky buns are made from the same dough.
Heat the milk and the butter until the butter has melted. Let the liquid cool to lukewarm. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Sift the flour into a warm bowl, add the salt and sugar and make a well in the center. Add the yeast mixture, milk and egg. Mix with your hand, gradually drawing in the flour to form a smooth dough. If the dough is sticky, work in more flour.</
