The honeycomb surface of a waffle is designed to catch a topping of whipped cream, honey, maple syrup, jam or ice cream.


  • 2 cups/250 g all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder


  1. Mix the batter, adding the baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and allspice to the flour with the salt. Let the mixture stand for 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the waffles (see Making waffles) and serve warm with a topping of your choice.
