A smoothie sounds a lot healthier than a milkshake, doesn’t it? But for a real treat, you could add a spoon or two of vanilla ice cream to this smoothie to turn it into a great milkshake. For a vegan smoothie, use coconut yogurt, and oat or coconut milk. This recipe is a great way to use up old bananas that look past their best.

Ingredients

  • 2 overripe or black bananas, in their skins
  • 200 ml/7 fl oz/scant 1

Method

  1. Wash and dry the bananas. Cut off the stalks and bottom ends.
  2. Slice up the bananas, skin and all, and blitz them in a blender with all the other ingredients – keep going until silky smooth.
