At Colman’s, we have been serving our fish and chips for over 100 years, and even cooking them at the Queen’s birthday parties! We thought we would share our knowledge so you can give this recipe a go at home. – Richard Colman Ord


  • 4 cod fillets, each weighing around 170-180 g (choose MSC sustainable fish where possible)
  • 100 g


To make the perfect fish and chips, you need to start by buying the right fish. Ensure that the fish is as fresh as possible and try to buy sustainable fish wherever possible. Look out for the MSC blue fish logo!

For the batter

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until smooth. The batter needs to be a similar consistency to single cream.
