When we were small my Mum used to make a ‘pizza pie’. It was a scone base mixture in a tart tin with piles of yummy tomato sauce and loads of cheese. I have made this base often and have used it for many a tart or picnic savoury. Here it is with a perfect combination of figs and cheese. Great food for eating with your fingers!

Ingredients

  • 50 g butter
  • 250 g self raising flour (plus extra for flouring work surface and rolling pin)

  1. Put the flour and butter into a mixing bowl and rub together with your fingers and thumbs. The mix will soon look a bit like breadcrumbs. You can do this in a food processor if you prefer. Add the rosemary (reserving a little for sprinkling on top) and baking powder, and season with salt and pepper. Stir through and then add the water. Mix it with your hands and form int
