I spent as many December holiday breaks in India as I did summers. The summers had glorious monsoon rains, all the mangoes I could dream of, and going out for ice golas every night after dinner. But the winters were also special. There were street vendors who served roasted white sweet potatoes, custard apples were available at fruit stands, and the Uttarayan festival was held. Uttarayan takes place every January in Gujarat and marks the end of the winter season. It’s celebrated by everyone
