Pumpkin, Tangerine, and Marmalade Bread

This bread is a sweet, festive treat that I like to make for New Year’s breakfast. According to Greek tradition, on New Year’s Eve or after the festive lunch on the first day of the year, the father of the family cuts into a rich, aromatic bread or cake that has the year written in almonds on top and a lucky coin hidden inside. Each family member gets a piece, starting with the elders, and whoever gets the symbolic coin is rewarded with a gift of money and good luck for the New Year.
