I prefer my cocktails to be light and easy, so they don’t knock me over before it’s even time for dinner. That’s why I am a huge fan of the Italian apéritif wine called Cocchi Americano Bianco. It’s less boozy than hard alcohol and off-dry, with just a touch of bitterness. It can be turned into all sorts of fancy cocktails but it really doesn’t need much more than a generous splash of tonic water.
