This recipe started off as Black Forest pavlovas - individual chocolate meringue nests with cherry kirsch cream and cherry compote - which I was planning on making for my son’s christening. They went wrong! I was very distracted while making the meringue, with all our friends arriving for the weekend, resulting in the meringues not holding their shape. The next day, after realizing they wouldn’t look very good as individual desserts, I crumbled them up and created a chocolate cherry version
