Adding fresh pear to this porridge/oatmeal gives a light refreshing flavour and a natural sweetness – and is a good way to use up any pears you have that are past their best. There’s also the added benefit of quinoa flakes in with the oats. They add a subtle nuttiness and, of course, all the goodness that quinoa is known for – like amino acids and protein and vitamins and iron and . . . the list is endless – it’s not known as a superfood for no good reason.
