Ataïf is a sweet dearly loved all over the Middle East, a medieval dish which has remained unchanged to this day. It was particularly favoured by the Caliph Mustakfi of Baghdad in the tenth century, to whom a poem, written by a certain Mahmud ibn Husain alKushâjim about the merits of the sweet, was recited at a lavish banquet in honour of the Caliph.
Ataïf are basically pancakes dipped in syrup. Sometimes they are sprinkled with pistachios and eaten with thick cream, s
